I am Me

March 9, 2010

I am me,

too crazy, too hazy.

Flying over the seasons.

One minute to feel,

to laugh, to see.

I am me.

Merry Strawberry

March 8, 2010

The baker in me strikes again…luckily I was not tempted to eat them since they are strawberry…not my cake of choice. My birthday girl had a very happy birthday, and as if the cupcakes are not enough, yes those are smarties on top of the icing.

Don’t quit your day job…

May 13, 2009

I had a dream as a young child of owning my own bakery. My main goal was to be able to offer children on their way home from school inexpensive delicious cookies.

It would probably be of no surprise then that cookies are my favorite bakery item. Although a good piece of cake is most definitely enjoyed.

Every time I decorate a cake whether made from scratch or a mix my childhood dreams are shattered. I try to keep a stiff upper lip and remember that practice makes perfect. Well, in my case I guess practice make acceptable.

Elisabeth's Cupcakes

The cupcakes I made for Elisabeth’s school party turned out great though! It took me a while to figure out how to turn white frosting into brown using food coloring. I got a wonderful beige. And then I resorted to google. “frosting brown food color” – in return I received many responses on how to make “chocolate free” brown frosting! CHOCOLATE – of course, like the container sitting in my cupboard. I was a little frustrated – but I was even more relieved – with 2 sleeping kids and the cupcakes due first thing in the morning I knew there was no way of getting a quick fix from the store.

There are disasters and near disasters. Luckily for Elisabeth I am a pro at cake near disasters…

The Red Sea Cake

The Red Sea cake did not fair as well. It was delicious being a red velvet cake with white chocolate almond frosting, but… I frosted the first layer and after setting the top layer on the cake decided – nope, I want more frosting on the FIRST layer. I took the second layer off and well, it became 2 pieces. 2 pieces that never quite stuck back together. As I was frosting the top I kept trying to push the layers together and they kept forming this gap – reminding me of the parting of the Red Sea.

Oh, and the pie in the picture is not from me but a VERY delicious Blueberry Raspberry birthday pie from…

I really enjoyed this image! I am working on putting together a book of 2 stories Elisabeth wrote for her to give as Christmas gifts and I saw this and fell in love.

100 Teething Dolls

December 8, 2008

I honestly thought they would fill a larger box. I also thought they would take less time and that I might have enjoyed the process more. I think I have the hang of it now. After making dolls for 4 years I have never done this type of quantity. But now that I have I am not so intimidated by it.

Blog? Say what?

August 20, 2008

So my sister is ordering business cards for our podcast and wanted to know if I wanted to add a blog. Ya know, the blog that I have been wanting to do for oh so long. So I said:

“I am planning on doing a blog but it needs to wait until I move…I can get an address and give it to you…and then set it up after I move.”

2 days 7 hours later I have a blog. Interesting.

Moving

August 20, 2008

I am in the middle of a move. So when that’s done I’ll start working on this blog. Unless my sister starts posting things under my name. Which is what happens to be going on right now.
